Rehab Loan

Bastian Schweinsteiger was one of the very few players Jupp Heynckes did not want to worry about replacing. But that is now the case for the Bayern Munich head coach after his defensive midfielder broke his collarbone on November 2, 2011 in Munich’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Napoli.
Schweinsteiger suffered the injury in the 51st minute in a collision with Gökhan Inler and Bayern ahead 3-0 in full command. While Schweinsteiger was brought to local hospital, his Munich teammates nearly gave away the game, winning 3-2.
Schweinsteiger was operated on by Dr. Andreas Imhoff at 2 a.m. Thursday night. He will have to have 14 days of absolute rest and then rehab. All told, Schweinsteiger is expected to miss six weeks, meaning he will not play again in 2011. That leaves Schweinsteiger missing Bayern’s final two Champions League group stage matches at home against Villarreal and at Manchester City as well as six Bundesliga matches (at Augsburg, Dortmund, at Mainz, Werder Bremen, at Stuttgart, Cologne) and Bayern’s German DFB Cup Round of 16 match at Bochum.
